There's more to the conversation that I had last night with bart-Dv that led to "This was very different, very uncharacteristic behavior for him" - there was some confusion, for a minute, in what he was remembering. All in all, though, what he said is important in the situation of [Dave]:

The following was said between
Me: "Yes. Because you asked. You asked me why people at [John's Cafe] wanted you to ban me from here and I told you then."
and 
Bart-Dv: "Okay, Marianne. It's all right. You're right. Forget what I said. You can still come in here."

Bart-Dv: "You told me how [Bear] threw [Dave] across the pool table [ which would be at John's Cafe] and did it to him." 
Me: "No. I didn't tell you that." 
Bart-Dv: "Yes you did. You said you watched it, that you were there." 
Me: "No. I didn't." Bart-Dv: "Okay. You told ________." 
I was horrified to hear this, although Bart-Dv may not have been picking up on that yet. But, with this, I was realizing that this story was most most probably true.

Last fall, I may have heard about things being done to [Dave] in public, presumably at [John's Cafe], but I was trying not to dwell on it. I'd also had another comment thrown at me about a week or so ago that reminded me of what I'd heard last November, on 11/20[I may have been referring to 11/18 or 11/20], although I may have heard reference to it a few other times as well.

What was told to me a week or so ago was not in [41 Degrees North], but rather [Go Fish] where I had gone briefly to get a bite to eat.  But it was made by a woman who was there 8/8, the night of his abduction, one of the very few still in the bar when some of the rest took place. She's been referred to as cafe patron K in the 3rd from last paragraph of 02/25/03 - WAKE UP!!!!! - INCLUDING NL

Summary of the situation

On August 8, 2002, after he and I experienced three months of considerable harassment by a local "gang" of people, David was finally abducted by these people, that is, unwillingly taken under their total control and custody.  By about October, 2002, Dave started to be seen in public again but was being portrayed as a gay prostitute.

Banking on the bizarre nature of their activities, the people holding David corroborated on statements they made to the police that I have “serious mental problems” to persuade law enforcement to disregard information I was relaying to police relating to the abduction, forced custody and forced prostitution of David, who was being held there by these people at the time, and to disregard my request to the police to investigate the situation.  The people who prevented David from escaping on 8/16/02 also corroborated on additional false statements to the police and I was arrested on four false charges.  On 10/21/02, the court decided not to prosecute those charges.

Although, at least at first, it was being relatively well masked, David has been forced into prostitution, an activity that is becoming more openly apparent in the local area, both his and that of other people, particularly men.  The level of control traffickers are maintaining over him, as well as other evidence, soon indicated that he is now being held in actual slavery.  Additionally, his prostitution is particularly sadistic, possibly in a number of ways.  There are also indications that he is possibly being tortured and kept under additional inhumane conditions.  He has not been able to escape nor be rescued and there are indications and reports that many, many others of our local community have similarly fallen victim to these people. 

There is reason to believe that the activities associated with, at least, this criminal operation are now spread across a tri-state area and extend to the two Native American casinos in this area, Foxwood and Mohegan Sun. There are also reports of victims being for activities in tours and cruises, including to other parts of the country, as well as possibly other countries.

As the activities of this organized crime operation are becoming more aggressive and openly carried out, the community is being increasingly terrorized by these terrorists.  Mostly out of fear, members of the community, including members of that infrastructure, are actually supporting and protecting this gang of people and their activities.

In addition to trying to get the police to effectively investigate Dave’s situation, since the time of his abduction I have been appealing to members of the community to help resolve this situation, emails being used to reach out to it because it is, otherwise, unreachable due to the terrorism plaguing this community. In late April, 2003, this web site was set up for the same purpose.  Particularly in some of the earlier emails, phrases rather than names are used to identify people and places.

Since the end of 2002, there is evidence that a very loose coalition has developed of local community members who are actively attempting to address this challenge, some of whom are working “underground.”  However, because of the clandestine requirement of this effort due to the level of terrorism in the community, although we are now registered with the U.S. federal government Campaign to Rescue & Restore Victims of Human Trafficking (www.acf.hhs.gov/trafficking/) it has been too dangerous to legally incorporate and, therefore, we are ineligible for funding.

As of August 2003, one year after Dave's abduction, the community appears to finally be willing to come forward to report and testify, under certain conditions.

Coordination with at least local law enforcement is absolutely essential yet one thing these efforts are critically lacking.  Federal, state and local law enforcement and judicial authorities have proven unwilling to use appropriate protocol for a situation such as this and have refused to investigate or to investigation this as a human trafficking situation or even one one involving gang activity or organized crime.

In the meantime, the local gang spread word throughout the community suggesting that they go on the internet and do a search for  "ERDA":

The site leads to what must be considered additional threats and arrogant taunts, possibly in response to the gang's awareness that I had not yet accepted the plea agreement offered on 11/01/04 and was possibly going to pursue defense of the false arrests of me of 06/16/03 and 10/23/03.  Particularly because of emails to the community, most of which are contained on this web, they are well aware that, particularly due to the amount of attention this situation may have attracted from various possible supporters throughout  the country and the world that, the trial may possibly force an investigation of both local corruption or short-comings and eventually force effective investigation of their operation.

The use of a website, emails and other computer technology to relay "possible" threats was also used in the "possible" first threat I suspected as being such  

Word of this "ERDA" threat was immediately reported to federal authorities.  By 11/29/04, word again was spread throughout the community to do a similar search of "erdult" which revealed that the web site summary of the above web site had been changed:

Both of these summaries may be in reference to two emails that been sent to the community regarding the court trial.  The 11/04/04 - regarding my court trial [only slightly modified] v.2 [modified]  email presented the pros and cons of going on with the trial, and one of the reasons listed against doing so is reflected in the summaries of both of the above web sites:

The second email to which these web site summaries may be alluding is to 11/27/04 - A CT'zn* in Yankee - duh - quirk?, an email sent out to the community on the date included in the revised web site summary, although, at the time of the revised ERDA page summary, had not yet been uploaded to this My Kindred Spirit web site.

Yes, this additional "possible threat" was also immediately reported to federal authorities who, at one point, seemed to indicate that they may actually be closely monitoring this situation, but there is no indication that, since then, anyone there is really even reviewing what is being reported.

Major Factors

Forced Activities

  • Forced into prostitution, including gay prostitution, which David’s build does not accommodate without causing him considerable pain and, most probably, endangers his safety considerably more than would to the average man

  • Reported being used in “performances” which are suspected of involving torture

  • Based on possible messages passed to me, it is suspected that he is being used in pornography

Restraints

  • Held against his will, under fear and threats, possibly under physical restraints, at times  

  • Drugs seem to also be used to keep him from escaping, by him being kept drugged into unconsciousness, where he is being kept, and drugged to the point of semi-unconsciousness when being "transported," at which times others who may note this are evidently told that he is "just really drunk."  This is most probably being done so that he is unaware of where he's been taken.  There are also indications that he is also often drugged so that he is unaware of who has assaulted him.  Much of this drugging of him has been done in public, or in a public restroom, so that it is very obvious to anyone watching him closely to note that he has suddenly gone from a very alert state to one of semi-unconsciousness.  There is reason to believe that the people holding him have access to more than just "street drugs."

  • There is reason to believe that he is routinely interrogated under Sodium Pentothol, i.e., truth serum, to ensure that he is complying with the orders of those holding him.  There are also reports and indications that he is heavily "punished" for deviating with the wishes of this gang, as well as for efforts I make in getting him freed.  (There are also indications that some of the phone calls I've made, as well as possibly faxes and emails, have been tapped, as well as that information that has been provided to FBI, New Haven, has been passed to Stonington Police then, somehow, passed to the people holding David, and that these are some of the things for which David has been "punished.")

  • Usually under guard or thinking that he is under guard.  When not under guard, there are indications that he is later interrogated under the use of truth serum.

  • Often punished by means of more painful sexual assaults and, most probably, beatings.

  • He, as well as other victims and witnesses, will most likely will not speak about his actual situation unless he feels it is 100% safe for him to do so, which would require him being absolutely certain, not only that he can trust the person to whom he is communicating, but also that he will not be turned back to the people who are holding him nor still be in a situation in which he can easily be taken by them again.

  • Trust in other people has been effected by people who’d originally posed as friends being the principals in all this and people he still may consider friends “going along” with these activities.  He is also aware of the terror in the community that causes even many sincere "sympathizers" to bend to the demands of this gang.

  • "Law enforcers" have repeatedly acted in a manner that supports and protects the gang's custody of him , both willingly and, perhaps sometimes in unawareness.  This is one reason that he will have a tendency not to trust “authorities” and most probably will not reveal his actual situation to them.  Other reasons for him to believe this is due to:

    • General sense of distrust for police within the community, particularly Stonington and, more recently, Groton

    • Close relationship between the person who appears to have been most instrumental in his abduction to that of a lieutenant on the police force, to which she often alludes as a threat to people ( It is believed she has a higher rate of having people arrested than other bartenders in the establishment in which she works.  Also see Account of Abduction and Indication of Total Control ) 

    • Role police played the evening of August 16, 2002 ( see Account of Abduction and Indication of Total Control )

  • It is unlikely that he is permitted to drive a vehicle, particularly with no one else in the vehicle with him 

  • Reportedly currently no known address, which makes it extremely difficult for him to be located

  • His personal identification has been taken from him, including his immigration papers, and he is usually not permitted to hold any money

Inhumane Treatment and Conditions

  • Held against his will

  • Reasons to be believe that he is not getting food, at times, sometimes drastically deprived of sleep

  • There was a report of him being found abandoned in a basement in chains during a period when the person who appeared to be responsible for guarding him “disappeared” for a while

  • There were reports of him being kept in a van guarded by a dog that was not being let out to defecate and that Dave was being made to endure those conditions.   It may have been that his parent’s visit here to check on him is what caused the gang to remove him from those conditions

  • There are reports that he is “drugged most of the time,” including drugs that evidently make him unaware of where he is and who is around him, even someone who may be assaulting him.  I’ve seen evidence of both his drugging and of that unawareness.  

Methods being used to Camouflage Situation  

  • He is heavily briefed on what to do and say.   It is suspected that truth serum may sometimes be used to ensure he complies.

  • Calls to his family are most likely monitored, as I may have walked in on Sunday morning, 8/11/02

  • Word is being spread that he really is gay, which I know he isn’t, that he is voluntarily working as a prostitute and actually enjoys what happens to him during the performances

  • When I was finally free again frequent the area and Dave started be taken in public again, the gang almost immediately assigned a guard to him, posing as his “girlfriend,” to

    • Prevent needed communication between him and people who may help him escape

    • Ensure that he does nothing that would enable him to escape on his own

    • Ensure that he says nothing that reveals his actual situation, although it has been possible for him to do so

    • Disguise the activities required to keep him drugged

  • There is a possibility that the gang collected a “ransom” for Dave in November, 2002, and released him to fellow gang members

Possible Interstate and International Trafficking

  • There is a report that Dave and at least one other person who appears to have been taken by these people are also being used in other states, most probably Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.  There is also reason to believe that victims are possibly also sometimes being used in "tours" abroad, possibly through the use of with forged documents.  There is also reason to suspect that there are other areas of the east coast, at least, to which victims are taken temporarily for activities.

  • There was also a report of Dave being in Arizona in January.  There is reason to believe that victims may be forced to participate in other illegal activities to help "blackmail" them into not revealing what has happened to them.

  • At one point, the people holding Dave were trying to make it appear that he has moved to outside of the U.S., however, there are indications that this was said to discourage people from continuing to try to find him, particularly since they were told that a formal request for investigation was about to be filed with the FBI.  However, there were additional incidents, unrelated to these, that may indicate that this operation is also involved in moving victims or potential victims across international borders, in support of trafficking activities
