US District Attorney - Connecticut District
New Haven, Connecticut

  • 03/31/03 Investigation inquiry to U.S. Attorney, Connecticut District, Kevin O'Connor

    • Although I had been directed by Andrea Stillman, State Representative Andrea Stillman - Democrat, 38th Assembly District, Waterford and Montville, to speak directly with Kevin O'Connor, and I explained that, when calling that office, the call diverted to a person who claimed to be a "Maria Kahn" and a "Federal Prosecutor," who told me that a request for investigation I may submit would probably not be given high priority because of the amount of time since David's abduction.  (Note, this was a little over 7 months after the 08/09/02 abduction.)

    • Request for investigation could only be submitted on the form that that office supplies.  The blank form could not be faxed or emailed to me.  It had to be sent via U.S. postal service.

      • It took three attempts, by that office, for that blank form to make it through the U.S. postal service, even though, the second time, it had been sent as "registered mail."  After that one was also "lost in transit," I called the Waterford Post Office and arranged to meet with the Postmaster.  I also called U.S. Attorney, Connecticut District, Kevin O'Connor's office again and requested that a third attempt be made to send me the required form.

      • I brought a copy of the Battle On The Homefront flyer with me to the meeting with the Postmaster.  Another staff member was also in the meeting.  In response to their questions and suggestions, I explained what had happened to Dave, the efforts in which I was involved, and the requests for investigation attempted so far.  After listening to their advise on who I should contact, I told them about  the two forms from the U.S. Attorney's office that had been "lost in the mail."  I also told them that a third form had been sent out to me, that morning, and to please keep careful watch for it for me.  The next day or the day after, I received a call from the Waterford Post Office that certified mail had been received for me.  When I went to the post office to sign for it and retrieve it, I found that it was the form that had been mailed to me from the U.S. Attorney's office the morning of my meeting with the Postmaster.  I asked that he be alerted to the fact that it had, finally, been received.
